Smoke alarms
Smoke Alarm Electrician in Ripon
Interlinked mains alarms mean a fire anywhere in the house is heard everywhere. We fit and test them properly.
Battery alarms are easy to fit and easy to ignore. Mains-powered alarms with battery backup stay on, and when they’re interlinked, a fire in the kitchen sets off every alarm in the house, so you hear it upstairs with the doors shut.
We fit smoke alarms on landings and in hallways and living areas, heat alarms in kitchens, and carbon monoxide alarms near fuel-burning appliances. Interlinking can be wired or by radio, which avoids lifting floors in older homes.
Upgrade your alarms if

- Your alarms are over ten years old
- They don’t all sound together

Alarms for Ripon homes and lets
Taller townhouses in Ripon, with three or four storeys, make interlinking especially important, because an alarm in the basement kitchen can’t be heard in a top-floor bedroom. For landlords, a smoke alarm is required on every storey, and a CO alarm in any room with a fixed combustion appliance (other than a gas cooker).
Smoke alarm questions
Can alarms be interlinked without new cables?
Yes. Radio-interlinked alarms talk to each other wirelessly, which is ideal for older homes where lifting floors isn’t practical.
What alarms do landlords need?
A smoke alarm on every storey used as living accommodation, and a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a fixed combustion appliance, excluding gas cookers.
How long do alarms last?
Most need replacing after ten years. The expiry date is usually printed on the alarm.
